Process involved in application Rationalization.

Step 1: Identify the cells in Zachman Framework which are key to Application Rationalization

  • This requires one-to-one interactions with business owners, IT owners using questionnaire, survey templates etc. As a first step, our team will collect the existing artifacts related to the architecture. Most of the artifacts are static and composite in nature. The information is stored in Excel and Word documents.

Step 2: Create the business strategy, business process and IT (application) primitives

  • As a second step, team will identify the relevant primitives from the static, composite documents (models). For this step, will use Zachman Framework and organize the primitives in the appropriate cells of the Zachman. Next step is to create the basic composites (two variable models) from the primitives identified. Example – business process primitives would include elements like Activities, Roles, Events, Data and Business Rules etc.

Step 3: Create the basic and advanced composite models

  • Composite models are created to establish relationship between business process, business locations, process owners and the applications. We created simple and complex composite to identify the impact of applications consolidation.

Step 4: Diagnosis to identify the overlapping and redundant processes and applications etc.

  • Key deliverable includes traceability models, relationship matrix, gap analysis and impact analysis. This step is critical to effectively identify the overlaps, redundancies etc. The traceability models are used to quickly explore the relationship chain while relationship matrices are a spreadsheet display of relationships between model elements. For example, relationship matrix helps to identify the applications that are required to consolidate based on various parameters like location usage, timeline of the applications, etc.

Step 5: Report and transition plan

  • Based on the results of evaluation, our team will create a transformation strategy for Target Architecture. This strategy is driven by considering 9 key parameters. Such as User Profile, Functional Usage, Department Use, Application Maturity Index, and Timeline Profile, Cost Benefit Analysis, Portfolio Optimization, Risk Assessment and Financial Impact etc. We not only provide you with the recommendations, but also help in transformation prototypes as well as ensuring the complete transformation.
